Biography

Jessie Williams is native of Mount Pleasant, SC and youngest of three children. He is married to the former Wyona Thompson. They have one son Elijah.

In 1993, he graduated from USC-Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He completed a Master of Arts in Teaching-Elementary Education degree in 1996 and in 2006 a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration all from USC-Columbia.

He started his career in education as a substitute teacher and then as a teaching assistant at AC Flora High School. At AC Flora, he reorganized the AC Flora Gospel Choir and sponsored the only fraternity ever organized on that campus. Upon receiving certification, he took his first teaching job at Alcorn Middle School where he worked for three years. In those three short years, he was able to revive the defunct yearbook staff and co-founded a boys to men mentoring program. He was also runner-up for the prestigious award of teacher of the year. After leaving Alcorn Middle school, he started teaching at Joseph Keels Elementary School teaching 3rd and 5th Graders. He taught there for six years. While there he organized a boys’ choir. The first ever in the history of that school and was able to secure grant funding to sustain the budget of that group from the state’s EIA grant source. He is currently an Assistant Principal. A position he has held since the 2005-06 school year. This is his 22nd year in education. At Bethel-Hanberry he organized and oversees two mentoring programs called Girls In Pearls and BowTie Gents aimed at sharing important life skills with 5 th grade girls and boys. He is also an entrepreneur that works to ensure that equal justice under the law is extended to all people.

He grew up in the church and is an ordained elder in the Church of God In Christ. He also is a Minister of Music. He is also blessed to serve as the Director of the South Carolina Jurisdiction COGIC Scholastic Motivation Ministries. These ministries are designed to help young people exude excellence in academics and in all settings and still maintain being a Christian.

In his free time, he loves attending Carolina football and basketball games, bowling, watching movies, and eating great food with family and friends.
